For any fellow photographers/anyone interested I thought I'd do a page about the equipment I use - cameras, lenses, tripods etc.
After an early and rather poor quality Canon Compact, I think it was about 3mp and took awful quality photos, my next acquisition was a Canon 400D - I still use this camera when I don't want to cary much around with me and it serves me rather well. It is light, small and easy to use and gives good quality results.
Next up was a Compact for when I didn't even want to carry an SLR around. In the end quality mattered more to me than pocketability so I went for the rather fabulous Canon G10 - built like a tank... which is just as well as I have lost count of the number of times I have dropped it and mostly onto concrete/tarmac and one occasion - two floors in a building. It has lots of manual controls and is like using a scaled down SLR -definitely one for the enthusiast photographer.
Next up was a Canon 50D ... just a wonderful, wonderful Camera, bigger and heavier than my 400D but with lots of good features and lots of the most oft used controls/settings quickly available with dedicated buttons to save time going through menus. It is a camera aimed at the keen enthusiast and used as a backup camera by pros. I loved it so much I bought a second one so I could keep two lenses on the go without having to keep swapping over every few minutes.
Since I originally wrote this I dropped my Canon 400D on a church floor and it now rests in peace. It has been replaced by a Canon 500d.
I have alos gone for some pentax Equipment as follows:
Pentax K200D with 18-55mm Kit Lens
Pentax K5 with 18-55mm WR kit lens
Sigma 10-20mm
steinheil 70-140mm
Now we come to lenses - I have quite a few so will just list them all with minimal , if any.comments
Zoom Lenses
Canon 18-55mm standard lens - came with the 400D - no where near as bad as it's reputation would suggest
Canon 18-55mm MK11 - adds Image Stabilisation and better optics
Canon 10-22mm
Canon 70-200mm leftover from my film days but works perfectly inc auto focus and all else on all my SLR's
Sigma 18-200mm
Prime (fixed focal length)
Canon 28mm
Canon 50mm f1.8 - a bargain of a lens with stunning results for a bargain price (build quality feels cheap but at that price and image quality ..)
Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro
2 X Manfrotto Tripods
Various torches inc the wonderful LED Lenser P7
